Preschoolers Birthday Party Ideas and Advice From Sunshine!

My advice when throwing a birthday party for very young children---

Don't go overboard! Too many guests, and too much going on, can take the fun out it for the birthday child. Can take the fun out of it for mom and dad too!

Who To Invite

Parties for children under 5 years old will probably include family members; cousins, aunts, uncles ect. As children get older, I suggest inviting only your child's closest friends. Children who already know each other will have more fun together.

It's not mandatory to invite the siblings of your child's friends or even parents. Many parents would pobably enjoy the free time to do something else. And you have less mouths to feed!

Preschoolers Games and Activities

  • Pick up ducks; Use a plastic tub or small swimming pool to put the ducks in. Tell the kids they get a prize if they pick a duck with a star on the bottom. Let them take turns until everybody gets a winner!

  • Pin the _____ on the _____. Fill in the blanks to suit your theme or party.

  • Balance Beam; Lay a 2x6 board on the ground or even the floor. Take turns walking the plank. For older kids, elevate the board with bricks. or boards.

  • Board games like Candy Land are fun and help children learn about taking turns, sharing and even, dare I say, winning and losing.

  • Hide and seek
  • Hide items for the kids to search for.
  • Play dough
  • Bubbles; Make a 5 gallon bucket of bubbles [see our bubble recipe on the nav bar]. Bubbles are fun for children of all ages.
