Be a Clown Be a Clown All The World Loves a Clown!

The art of clowning originated in the kings court and clowns were considered to be very political characters. In other words they took aim at politicians. An art form that I think we all enjoy today!

In the past clowns were primairly thought of as circus characters, known for their colored wigs, [not worn as much today] stylistic makeup, outlandish costumes and supersized shoes.

The circus clown also referred to as the "classic american clown" was known as the "hobo-tramp" clown. The "hobo-tramp" clown is less prevelant today.

The only mice I ever want to see!

Some children may actually be afraid of clowns and other costumed figures, even Santa Claus. Unfortunately there are too many people with little or no training dressing up as clowns just to make a quick buck. These people really damage the publics image of clowns.

True clowning comes from the heart and soul, and requires training and learning from the best in the business.

A trained pro is never aggressive with young or shy children. When the timid child sees the other children having fun, they to will usually want to join in. If not, then let them enjoy the show from a distance they are comfortable at.

When considering whether or not to have a clown perform at your childrens Birthday, you're going to want to follow the same guidelines we talked about with magicians or any other performer.

Try in advance of your Birthday Party to see them at a public event. Most clowns perform at local malls, grand openings, minor leage baseball games and other public events.

They usually entertain by creating fabulous balloon animals, face painting, doing magic tricks, ect. A well trained performer knows how to make a child feel like a star.

See if they have a website. It should contain pricing, schedule information, pictures of themselfs in costume, references and other valuable information. Most professionally trained performers get at least $100.00 and up for a half hour Birthday Party. Beware of $25.00 an hour clowns as they probably have little or no training.
